Humpty Doo Barramundi Named NT Seafood Industry Award Winners

Humpty Doo Barramundi has been recognised at the Northern Territory Seafood Industry Awards, taking home the Primary Producer (Large) Award, while Bradley Jones, Aquaculture Technician with the farm’s Research and Development team, received the Young Achiever Award.

The NT Seafood Industry Awards celebrate excellence across the Northern Territory’s seafood sector, recognising businesses and individuals who are driving innovation, sustainability, and developing the local seafood industry.

The Primary Producer (Large) Award recognises producers that have demonstrated business growth, excellence in product quality and marketing, and are helping strengthen community trust in the seafood industry as a whole.

Over more than 33 years of operation, Humpty Doo Barramundi has built a reputation as a pioneer in environmentally responsible aquaculture. From humble beginnings in 1993, growing just 6kg of fish per week, they are now the largest Australian-owned barramundi farm. Throughout this growth, Humpty Doo Barramundi has consistently operated beyond regulatory requirements, helping lead the Australian aquaculture industry in protecting and enhancing the natural environment.

Dan Richards, Co-owner and Chief Executive Officer of Humpty Doo Barramundi, said the award reflects the company’s long-standing commitment to sustainable farming practices. “We’ve always believed that the most sustainable form of farming works with our natural environment, not against it. That’s how we’ve built our family business, with our people, environment, fish, and partners at the front of everything we do. While this has always been our primary focus, recognition like this award reminds us that others see it too and motivates us to continue to strive to do better.”

The company also celebrated the success of Bradley Jones, who was named the recipient of the Young Achiever Award.

A key member of Humpty Doo Barramundi’s Research and Development team, Bradley was recognised for his commitment to continuous improvement, professional growth and knowledge sharing.

“We are also thrilled to see Brad’s passion and hard work recognised through the Young Achiever Award,” added Dan Richards. “Brad has been working to develop innovative processes and drive greater industry partnerships to improve outcomes across the seafood sector. He demonstrates professionalism, enthusiasm, and integrity in all aspects of his work and is a deserving of this recognition from our industry.”

Northern Territory Seafood Council Chief Executive Officer Daniel Capps reinforced the industry’s importance to the Territory, stating: “The seafood industry continues to play a vital role in the Territory, supporting jobs, regional communities and access to high-quality, sustainable seafood.”

With recognition for both business excellence and emerging talent, Humpty Doo Barramundi’s success at this year’s awards reflects the strength of its people, its commitment to innovation and its vision for the future of Australian aquaculture.
